Rouken Glen Country Park

About This Project

Job:         Rouken Glen Country Park – Glasgow
Client:    East Renfrewshire Council
Dates:    December 2014 – Feb 2015

iBEX began works at this exceptional SSSI with the purpose of clearing vegetation, soil and debris, with the aim of exposing the layers of rocks which were formed around 325 million years ago to improve visitor access.

  • Following detailed site meetings, iBEX agreed the plan of work to ensure maximum use of the available budget
  • Using rope access, the vegetation was cleared and several trees felled from cliffs and slopes above the river
  • Felled trees were winched up and/or across the river to be cut and stacked or removed from site
  • Alongside the clearance works part of the contract involved the design and installation of a two tier willow spilling to 14m of the collapsed river bank
  • The willow stems were driven into the river bed secured with duckbill ground anchors prior to drainage works and backfilling
  • Finally, we reinstated the fence line, leaving the area accessible for visitors and park staff
